Without an understanding of these narratives, the rules and statutes of the book of Exodus and the rest of Torah appear to be little more than a collection of empty do’s and don’ts. When read in the context of the Genesis narratives, however, the judgments of the law make solid sense. Although Genesis ends on a happy note with
